Eritrea to train 50,000 soldiers for Sudan

Many neighboring countries are involved in the ongoing civil war in Sudan, and the commander of the Northern Sudanese army, Mohamed A'Jakumi, said that Eritrean President Isaias Afewerki had promised him that his country would help train the troops.

He told Sudanese newspaper A'Sudani on June 27 that the president had promised Eritrea support by providing military training for up to 50,000 fighters to defend the country from the threat of the Emergency Relief Force.

The Sudanese army and the Emergency Relief Force are said to be dependent on foreign military assistance.

The Sudanese army is believed to be receiving support from Egypt, Russia, Iran, Turkey and Eritrea.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) receive support mainly from the UAE, Chad, South Sudan and Kenya.

The Sudanese army is said to receive military aid, weapons and training directly from Egypt. In October 2024, the leader of the RSF, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, strongly condemned Egypt and Iran for their support for the Sudanese army.

The Sudanese army has also received military supplies from Russia, including fighter jets. Sudanese officials have visited Moscow several times since 2024 to discuss strengthening ties and cooperation between the two countries.

In a remarkable development reflecting the escalation of military and civilian activities outside the official state framework, Mohamed Sayed Ahmed "Al-Jakomi," head of the Northern Track in the Juba Peace Agreement, announced that he and a delegation of leaders from the Northern and River Nile states will travel to the Eritrean capital, Asmara, within the next few days.
