    President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today President Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea, in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, and Mr. Osman Saleh Mohammed, Eritrean Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the President began the meeting by welcoming his brother, President Afwerki, praising his visit to Egypt and his participation in the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum, and stressing Egypt’s pride in the deep-rooted strategic relations that unite it with Eritrea, and its keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially economic and investment, in a way that supports President Afwerki’s efforts in advancing the national development process, and in confirmation of what was agreed upon during the historic visit made by the President to the Eritrean capital, Asmara, in October 2024.

Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesperson, added that the meeting witnessed an in-depth exchange of views on developments in the regional situation, where the President affirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to supporting Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

For his part, President Afwerki expressed his deep appreciation for the Egyptian role, under the leadership of the President, in consolidating stability and advancing development efforts in the Horn of Africa and East Africa, welcoming the expansion of economic cooperation with Egypt and the strengthening of bilateral coordination on international and regional issues of common interest.

The official spokesperson stated that the two presidents discussed developments in the Horn of Africa and affirmed their shared vision on ways to end the war in Sudan. In this context, they emphasized the need to support national state institutions, particularly the Sudanese Armed Forces, and rejected any attempts to establish parallel entities. The President highlighted Egypt's efforts within the framework of the Quartet Mechanism to end the war and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people, reiterating Egypt's commitment to working with its partners to ensure Sudan's unity, territorial integrity, and national sovereignty.

The meeting also addressed the latest developments in Somalia, where the two presidents stressed the commitment of the two countries to what was stated in the joint tripartite statement issued by the summit that brought together the leaders of Egypt, Eritrea and Somalia in Asmara, October 2024, which emphasized the need to respect the basic principles of international law, foremost among them the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Somalia and all countries in the region.

The importance of coordinating joint efforts to achieve regional stability and to strengthen the capabilities of Somali state institutions to meet internal and external challenges was also emphasized.

The official spokesperson explained that the meeting included an emphasis on the importance of strengthening cooperation to ensure the security of the Red Sea and to avoid affecting navigation in this vital waterway. The President stressed the need to intensify coordination between Egypt and Eritrea, as well as with the Arab and African coastal states, in order to contribute to consolidating security and stability in this important region.
