President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today President Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea, on the sidelines of the "Alamein Africa Business Forum" held in the new city of Alamein.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the President expressed his appreciation for the Eritrean President’s keenness to participate in the forum, which represents an important platform for enhancing cooperation and economic integration among African countries, stressing Egypt’s pride in the deep-rooted historical ties and close political and strategic relations that bind it to Eritrea, and emphasizing Egypt’s keenness to build on these distinguished relations and translate them into tangible economic and development projects and partnerships in various priority sectors, in order to achieve the common interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson, added that the meeting addressed the latest regional developments, particularly in the Horn of Africa. The President affirmed Egypt's full support for the security and stability of Eritrea, and its respect for Eritrea's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He emphasized Egypt's categorical rejection of any violation of state sovereignty or infringement upon territorial integrity, which contravenes the principles of international law and the Constitutive Act of the African Union. The President also affirmed Egypt's commitment to continued coordination and consultation with Eritrea on regional issues of mutual interest, contributing to enhanced stability in the Horn of Africa, supporting efforts to resolve crises peacefully, and strengthening cooperation to achieve security and stability in the Red Sea.
The official spokesperson added that the Eritrean President expressed his appreciation for the close relations and growing cooperation between the two countries, commending the level of political coordination and ongoing consultation with Egypt on various regional issues. President Afwerki, for his part, affirmed the significant convergence of views between the two countries regarding regional developments, particularly concerning the necessity of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and non-interference in their internal affairs. He also expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian President's reaffirmation of Egypt's unwavering commitment to developing bilateral relations and elevating the level of joint cooperation across various fields, commensurate with the deep historical ties and distinguished political relations that bind the two nations.
