President Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of EritreaPresident Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea, affirmed that there is a great convergence of views between the two countries regarding regional developments, especially with regard to the need to respect the sovereignty of states and their territorial integrity and non-interference in their internal affairs. He expressed his appreciation for what President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed regarding Egypt’s constant keenness to develop bilateral relations and raise the level of joint cooperation in various fields, in a manner that is commensurate with the depth of the historical ties and distinguished political relations that unite the two countries.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea on Saturday, on the sidelines of the “Alamein Africa Business Forum” held in the new city of Alamein.
Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that the President expressed his appreciation for the Eritrean President’s keenness to participate in the forum, which represents an important platform for enhancing cooperation and economic integration among African countries. He emphasized Egypt’s pride in the deep-rooted historical ties and close political and strategic relations that bind it to Eritrea, and stressed Egypt’s keenness to build on these distinguished relations and translate them into tangible economic and development projects and partnerships in various priority sectors, in order to achieve the common interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson, added that the meeting addressed the latest regional developments, particularly in the Horn of Africa. The President affirmed Egypt's full support for the security and stability of Eritrea, and its respect for Eritrea's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He emphasized Egypt's categorical rejection of any violation of state sovereignty or infringement upon territorial integrity, which contravenes the principles of international law and the Constitutive Act of the African Union. The President also affirmed Egypt's commitment to continued coordination and consultation with Eritrea on regional issues of mutual interest, contributing to enhanced stability in the Horn of Africa, supporting efforts to resolve crises peacefully, and strengthening cooperation to achieve security and stability in the Red Sea.
The official spokesperson added that the Eritrean President, for his part, expressed his appreciation for the close relations and growing cooperation between the two countries, praising the level of political coordination and continuous consultation with Egypt regarding various regional issues.
