Brazil and X: the real reasons behind the ban

Elon Musk’s posts on X have increased dramatically since he bought the company. The frequency reaches fever pitch when he’s got skin in the game. His fight with Brazil’s Supreme Court following its decision to ban X is a case in point.

Musk’s mini-missives consist largely of insults, complaint and barbs directed at Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. But, as Yasmin Curzi de Mendonçai writes, there’s a long history here which makes it much more than a bitter personal feud.

Australian children below a certain age will be barred from social media platforms under new laws proposed by the federal government. The plan does not specify the age limit, but the government is currently trialling age-assurance mechanisms for children aged 13–16. Michelle Grattan explains the significance of the plan.
