Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki spoke about the historical relations between Egypt and Eritrea, stressing that they extend to deep roots based on cooperation and mutual understanding, noting that the current stage imposes great responsibilities on the two countries within the framework of the region that includes the Nile Basin, the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf.
During an interview with journalist Tamer Hanafi on Cairo News Channel, the Eritrean president stated that bilateral and collective cooperation among the countries of the region is essential for achieving growth, prosperity, and stability. He emphasized that the relationship between Egypt and Eritrea is a special strategic one, aimed at comprehensive integration and cooperation to address the crises and turmoil plaguing the region.
Afwerki concluded his remarks by stressing that the sensitive geopolitical location of the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region places immense responsibilities on the leaders of the concerned countries, responsibilities that transcend traditional perceptions. He added, "Our mission is greater than what one might imagine."
